Worked Example: Adding a Product That Already Exists in the Catalog

#example#products#catalog#barcode#offer
Complete Examples · Products

Ahmad’s store is verified. His first product is Colombian Coffee Beans 250g, a branded item with a barcode on the pack. On Fawran, products are catalog-first: you find (or create) the shared catalog identity, then attach your own offer. Here is his exact run.

Starting point

State: verified store (APPROVED), zero products. Goal: the coffee listed as Ahmad’s offer on the existing catalog identity, ready for inventory. Ahmad’s internal reference for this item is CF-250-COL — note the platform generates the official SKU automatically when the product is saved.

Step 1 of product creation — choose the category, then identify the product in the catalog.

Step by step with Ahmad’s values

  1. Choose the category (e.g. Grocery → Coffee) and click Continue to identify the product.
  2. Pick Enter Barcode (or Scan Barcode with the camera) and type the pack barcode, e.g. 6291001234567, then Look up.
  3. The screen “We found this product” shows the catalog card: brand, category, barcode — with catalog status VERIFIED. Ahmad confirms with This Is My Product / Use the existing catalog product.
  4. The 4-step offer wizard opens: Identity (Arabic name حبوب قهوة كولومبية 250غ, English name Colombian Coffee Beans 250g, at least 1 image — 600×900 or larger recommended), Description (10+ characters in both languages), Offer & Pricing (price and release date), Compliance & Safety.
  5. Save. The product appears in the products list with a Hidden chip while it is a DRAFT.
  6. Activate by finishing the missing pieces: a valid price (otherwise INVALID_LISTING_PRICE — “the product cannot be published without a valid price”) and inventory. Once stock exists and the release date arrives, the status becomes ACTIVE.

What you should see

Catalog match (VERIFIED)Offer wizardDRAFTACTIVE

In CatalogMy Products the row shows link status Linked, catalog status VERIFIED and match confidence “Matched by barcode”. Catalog-owned fields are locked — “these fields come from the catalog and are managed by Fawran; to change them, send a suggestion”.

A common mistake on this journey

🚫Common Mistake

Filling only the English name. Saving fails with the exact validation message «اسم المنتج بالعربية مطلوب» (“the Arabic product name is required”). Recovery: add the Arabic name — Fawran is an Arabic-first marketplace and both names are part of a complete listing. The same step also enforces at least one image («يجب رفع صورة واحدة على الأقل»).

When to contact support

Contact support (category Catalog & Products) if the barcode matches a different product than what you sell and the “my product is genuinely different” path doesn’t fit, or if a catalog field is wrong and your correction suggestion has had no reviewer response for a long time.
