What happens to your stock when a customer returns an item

#returns#restock#inventory#quantity

A refund is not a restock

These are two separate things and they happen at different times. Money can go back to the customer long before anyone has seen the item.

Customer requests a return
Unit collected
Inspected
Accepted as sellable
Stock returns
ℹ️Note

Stock comes back at the inspection step, not at the refund step. Until an item has been checked, nobody knows whether it can be sold again.

When stock comes back

What happenedDoes your quantity go up?
Return requestedNo
Refund issuedNo
Courier collected the itemNo
Delivery failed, item on its way backNo — not until it is inspected
Inspected and accepted as sellableYes
Inspected and found damagedNo
Inspection failedNo

Partial returns

If a customer returns three units and only two pass inspection, two go back to your quantity. Each item on a return is handled on its own.

💡Tip

If the same return is processed twice, your quantity still only goes up once. Duplicate handling cannot inflate your stock.

Fulfilled by Fawran is different

For FBF, returned units are received into the Fawran warehouse and handled there, so they follow the warehouse stock process rather than your declared quantity.
