How your selling price works (regular price vs sale price)

#price#sale price#discount#variations

The two prices

Every variation you sell carries two numbers. You set both, and they mean different things.

Regular price
What the item normally costs. This is the price you set when you create the product, and it is the price customers pay when no sale is running.
Sale price
An optional lower price. While it is set, this is what the customer is charged, and the regular price appears crossed out beside it.

Which price does the customer pay?

The sale price, whenever one is set and it is genuinely lower than the regular price. Otherwise, the regular price.

⚠️Warning

A sale price must be lower than the regular price. A sale price that is equal to or higher than the regular price is rejected when you save — it is not a discount, and showing one would mislead the customer.

Every variation is priced on its own

Prices belong to the variation, not to the product. A T-shirt in four sizes can carry four different prices, and you can put one size on sale without touching the others.

Ending a sale

Clear the sale price. The item immediately goes back to its regular price and the crossed-out price disappears — no leftover "was" number stays on the card.

💡Tip

Changing the regular price while a sale is running does not cancel the sale. The customer keeps paying the sale price, and the new regular price becomes the crossed-out number.

If a price looks wrong on the storefront

Changes reach the storefront as soon as they are saved. If a price still looks wrong after saving, open a support ticket with the product and the variation — do not delete and re-create the product, because that loses its history and its reviews.
